Any movie with the Disney name or Pixar name attached to it is going to be popular, but add superheroes to the mix and you've got the formula for an instant smash. Because there are so many different characters with superpowers in the movie, The Incredibles is a natural fit for costume parties. Groups of partygoers can go as the whole family, or an individual can pick their favorite character for a great Halloween costume.

The Incredibles CostumesHere are some costume ideas and tips for The Incredibles.

Make Your Own Incredibles Costumes at Home

The Incredibles wear very similar costumes, each with a few little differences that make their costumes unique.

Mr. Incredible Costume--The father of the Incredible family has several superpowers, including brute strength, the ability to resist harm, and super-senses similar to Superman. Mr. Incredible is known for his red super suit which is a big part of his superpowers.

To make a home version of Mr. Incredible's costume, all you need is a tight-fitting red long-sleeved t-shirt and long red leggings or other tight-fitting elastic style pants.

Mr. Incredible has a black collar on his super suit--to make this, use a piece of black fabric one inch wide and just long enough to cover up the collar of your t-shirt. Use fabric glue to attach this piece to the shirt's collar.

Discount CostumesWith black construction paper, card stock, or even foam, make a five inch circle. For best results, use bright orange construction paper as a liner of the outside of your black circle. This orange border needs to be about an inch wide.

Make a lowercase "i" out of yellow construction paper or cardstock and glue this "i" in the center of your black circle. Attach the circle to the chest of the t-shirt with fabric glue or needle and thread.

Here's where you get to make another creative choice--for the trunks of The Incredibles costumes, you'll want a tight-fitting pair of black underwear briefs. You could also choose a Speedo or bikini bottom if you're brave. You'll be wearing this over your leggings, so don't worry about the Speedo being too revealing.

The Incredibles wear masks, and this accessory is crucial to your homemade Incredibles costume. You can buy one of those ubiquitous Halloween eye masks and jazz it up a little or make the whole thing yourself out of paper. To make the mask yourself, cover both eyes with a big piece of paper, then cover that paper with duct tape, making sure to overlap. Make sure to leave holes for your eyes. Once you peel the duct tape mask off, just clean up the edges, spray paint it black, and attach a string or other fastener to it so it stays on your face.

If you want to use a store bought mask, just add a little bit to the bridge of the nose and around the eyes--use foam or cardstock and spray pain the whole thing black. The Incredibles' masks are just a bit larger than your standard plastic Halloween mask.

The other Incredibles accessories are easy enough--wear tall black boots and long black gloves for that perfect finishing touch. For the orange belt, cut a piece of orange fabric two inches wide and just long enough to wrap around your waist.

When it comes to hair, each character is a bit different. For either Mr. Incredible or Dash, dye your hair blond and slick it back with as much goopy hair stuff as you can find. For Violet, dye or color spray your hair jet black and part it on the left side of your head. To be Mrs. Incredible, dye or color spray your hair brilliant red and part it on the left side. if you're being ambitious and making a Jack-Jack costume, dye your hair or color it orange and use hairspray to stick it straight up in the air as high as possible.

Elastigirl / Mrs. Incredible Costume--To make a perfect Elastigirl costume, follow the above instructions for Mr. Incredible's costume and make sure to dye your hair red. If you want to go all out, you can try to find gloves with long fingers to imitate Elastigirl's elastic capabilities.

Violet Costume--Another standard Incredibles costume, just make sure to make your hair black and parted on the left. Since Violet's biggest superpower is to turn invisible, the best Violet costume may be to not show up at all and tell your friends later that you were Violet Incredible.

Dash Costume--Another example of the standard Incredibles costume. Dash has hair like his daddy--slicked back and blond.

Jack-Jack Costume--Since Jack-Jack is a baby, he wears a onesie style version of The Incredibles costumes. It buttons up the front and at the crotch, like a baby onesie, and adding any baby accessory to the costume would be a perfect fit.

Frozone Costume--Frozone wears a very different costume from The Incredibles. His color is a frost blue, and the costume has some white embellishments. The most difficult part of making your own Frozone costume is making the hat/helmet accessory he wears. Frozone's powers involve freezing water, so naturally his colors are a bit cooler than anyone else's.

Start with Frozone's gloves and boots, the easiest part. They are plain white--get the longest gloves and boots you can find, with gloves past the elbow and boots up to the knee.

To make Frozone's body suit, use a pale blue long-sleeve t-shirt or other skin-tight top, and the same color of leggings. Frozone has a very specific white embellishment on his top that you can paint on or lay over a white piece of fabric cut to fit.

The Incredibles are great for costume parties because you can dress up as an individual or get a whole group together and go as the whole crew. Costumes from The Incredibles, one of the most popular Disney Pixar movies ever, are still really common at Halloween and costume parties.
